Raised a vegetarian and instilled with Eastern philosophy at a very young age, GT Dave quickly adopted a spiritual view of the world. Along with a deep respect for all living things, GT’s parents, Laraine and Michael, were also quick to pass on their affinity for “funky foods.”
In early 1993, the Dave family was gifted a Mother SCOBY from the Himalayas. Intrigued by Kombucha’s ancient healing properties, they used this beautiful living culture to brew their own homemade batches of the fizzy, fermented tea.
In late 1994, Laraine was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of breast cancer. When she miraculously healed, doctors asked if she’d made any recent changes to her lifestyle. Laraine explained that she had long been a vegetarian, but for the last two years had been drinking the family’s very pungent, homemade tea – GT’s Kombucha.
Inspired by his mom’s story, it became GT’s mission to make authentic Kombucha easily accessible for everyone, everywhere. At only 15-years-old, GT Dave began bottling his brew in the kitchen of his parents’ Southern California home. He had no business plan, just an earnest desire to share the healing powers of his humble offering with the world.
