Turnips have a slightly peppery, earthy flavor when eaten raw, that sweeten up when roasted.
This vitamin C packed root vegetable tastes great shredded or sliced raw, right into salads or slaws. They are also amazingly creamy and mild when sautéed with butter or roasted with olive oil and herbs. Mash them as you would potatoes, and if they have greens attached make sure you try them sautéed with garlic and oil.
Keep your turnips refrigerated in a plastic bag, separated from their tops as their shelf life differs. Turnips should stay fresh for about two weeks, whereas the greens only have a few days.
