The vibrant, deep green leaves of fresh basil add a bright, sweet taste to many dishes. Fresh basil is superior to dried basil in flavor and contains a good source vitamin A, vitamin K, and magnesium, making it a heart healthy herb!
Basil is most widely recognized as the main ingredient in pesto, but can also be enjoyed in tea, pureed and added into tomato soup, or added (as a whole leaf) to your caprese salad. Due to the volatile oils contained in basil, it's best to add it towards the end of the cooking process to maintain maximum flavor.
Wrap basil in a slightly damp paper towel and store in the refrigerator. You can also freeze fresh basil and store it in airtight containers or in ice cube trays with water to create cubes that can be added to anything while you cook!
